Gallery 28 - Celebrations

While I have no interest in celebrating Halloween (I live in Australia). I could not help but fall in love with these little guys in the USA last October. They were part of a display along the Balboa Waterfront.

Gallery 27 - Someone I Love

There are some very special people I love, but this prompt requires just one. I accompanied my daughter on her dance trip to the USA last year. I have been using Bella's weekly prompts to display pics from that particular trip. Laura featured with a giant lollipop in Gallery 21- 'Bright', but let me introduce her as one of the people I love. Laura Grace. She is currently on a student exchange in London and we are missing her desperately.

Zetland 2017

It has been a while since Arpana and I have been out together with our cameras. Today we zipped to the end of the alphabet and shot the Sydney inner city suburb of Zetland.

At the turn of last century swamp lands in Zetland were drained to create a horse racing course. Joynton Avenue and Park are named after the founder of the privately owned Victoria Park Racecourse. In the 1920's a racing car track was built around the horse racecourse but by WWII the site was used to build aircraft. Following the war the factory was used as a car assembly line in turn by Nuffield, BMC and Leyland Australia. From the 1970's though to the late 1990's the Victoria Park site was used as a Navel Depot. Now, the once claimed Sydney's smallest suburb, Zetland is expanding into a multistory residential melting pot. New high rise apartments have been built on the site and further developments of residential, retail and business are taking place.

In contrast to the Victoria Park development sits a pocket of beautifully restored and waiting to be restored terraced houses. We met a local resident form this established area and enjoyed conversation about the changes to the suburb. Jenny grew up in Zetland and has recently moved back to care for her elderly dad, a trend she has observed recently among other long time residents. This weekend Zetland is hosting the East Village Gourmet Food Festival.
