noun: a person, more specifically me (maxi) who delights in creating pictures (pix).

I live in Sydney, Australia with my husband, two teenage daughters and younger son. I juggle work and family and feel most refreshed when I have time to shoot. I teach 5 year olds at the local school, sometimes I think they teach me but mostly they make me laugh. My passion is photography and I have created this blog to share what I love to capture. 

Growing up, my dad was an avid amateur photographer so I developed a taste for photography very early on. I was given my first camera the Christmas I turned ten, I recall and still have the first image I ever captured; a play tent in the backyard (another Christmas gift). From that point I was hooked on freezing moments in time. The excitement of waiting for a film to be processed has now been replaced with the thrill of uploading memory sticks but the zing is still the same.

Before I was married I spent over a year travelling and photographing places in Europe. I was on a backpacker’s budget, eating tins of tuna and crackers but I always had money for film rations. I remember being very selective in what I framed, knowing a roll of 36 would not last forever. I look back at those photos with fondness, still happy with many of the pictures I took.

Appreciating the gorgeous photos I am fortunate to have from my childhood I was keen to capture memories of my own children on film. When they were younger they were much more cooperative. By accident I acquired my first digital camera five years ago. My SLR had been stolen in a house robbery and the insurance company could only replace the camera with a DSLR. I was horrified at first but realised the potential was fantastic. I have never looked back.

With my digital camera always in hand, my children’s patience and willingness to be subjects was wearing pretty thin. It was from then that I turned my lens to a series of mini projects. Deciding that automatic mode was cheating I commissioned an acquaintance to spend each Friday with me for 6 weeks teaching me how to use my camera in modes other than automatic.My most favourite project was, '365 Reasons to be Grateful'. A daily photographic journal over one year documenting gratitude.

Late last year I began a project that I am still working on called, ‘My Sydney’. The inspiration for which came from 52suburbs. I journey suburb by suburb with my photo buddy seizing images of this beautiful city, Sydney that I am privileged to live in. My friend and I solve the problems of our little worlds while snapping brief moments in the lives and places where others dwell.

These are a few of my favourite things: lists, rain, chocolate, ribbons, clean washing, the colour pink, stationery shops, books, tea and cake, being clutter free
